Mr. K.V.Shamsudeen- Sharjah Mrs. Susan Abraham- Singapore, Dr.Saji DSouza- Hyderabad, Mr. Dhanajayan K. Machikkal have been awarded Garshom Pravasi Ratna, Gashom Yuva Pravasi, Garshom Pravasi Returnee awards respectively. Cologne Kerala Samajam from Germany has won the best NRI organization of the year 2007.

Garshom Vartha Magazine instituted the Garshom awards in 2003, since then it has been given to the malayalees who held malayalees in high esteem by their own success and their service to the society. The award committee constituting Mr. K.Sukumaran- Chairman (Retd. Chief General Manager, S.B.T.) Dr. B. Ashok Kumar(Matha Amrithanandamayi Hospital, Ernakulam) Mr. Polly Mathew Somatheeram, Mr.S.K.Nair (Administrator, Garden City College, Bangalore), Mr. Jins Paul (Managing Editor, Garshom Infomedia Ltd) selected the winners from the names nominated by the readers of Garshom Vartha magazine.

Mr. Shamsudeen’s  Social welfare activities among the malayalees won him this years Garshom Pravasi Ratna award. He reached Sharjah in 1970. Besides being the Chairman of Pravasibandhu Welfare Trust and Director of Barjeel Geojit Securities, he is an active member of many malayalee organizations. He has been instrumental in bringing the issues concerning the Malayalees to the attention of Indian administrators through media.

Dr. Saji D’Souza (35) the winner of Garshom Yuva Pravasi made malayalees proud in Andra Pradesh with his inventive endeavors in ayurvedic medicine. He reached Hyderabad in 1997 after the completion of his studies in Trivandrum Ayurveda College. He indulges in art activities too and gives special emphasis on preserving the culture and tradition of Kerala. He represents Andhra Government in health tourism and ayurveda.

Mrs. Susan Abraham who won the Garshom Pravasi Vanitha award is a prominent figure in the social service arena in Singapore. She belongs to the second generation of Singapore malayalees. She involves in activities linking the new generation to the art and culture of Kerala. She is one of the organizers of the World Malayali Conference due in August 2008.

Mr. Danjayan K Machingal Garshom Pravasi Returnee of the year returned to Kerala after thirty years of life abroad. With his experience in Saudi Arabia and Germany, he runs a beach resort in Thrissur naattika and Dhakshin holidays providing employment for more than hundred malayalees.

Garshom Best Pravasi Malayalee Organization of the year has been awarded  to Kerala Samajam, Cologne for it’s stupendous work in promoting the malayalee culture and bringing their motherland closer to the younger generation who are in a land foreign to their roots. Kerala Samajam, Cologne now in its Silver Jubilee year has been an oasis of comfort for long to the Malayalee community in Germany. The organization has been encouraging the artistic and cultural interests of German Malayalees besides reaching out to the Malayalees at home through a lot of charitable activities with the financial assistance of the German Malayalees. The organization has been actively involved in teaching the mother tongue and passing on Kerala’s heritage and culture to the second generation of Malayalees of Cologne.
